weekly glee # 15 : halloween edition!

we're close to halloween and all saints day, one of them being a creepy festivity and the other one a rememberance day for saints. the sun's setting earlier now, the days are shorter and it's time for a lot of activities like decorating the flat and balcony with pumpkins; brewing tea, wrapping in a blanket and enjoying old movies. well, let's just ignore the dark-months-depressions and dive into a ghostly, mystic world.

1. desertions.

# alexdoomer2009 has found an incredible little house in the midst of autumn nature. surrounded by golden leaf trees you can find treasures like old wheels, a picture of a white bearded man ( i'm sure he must be someone famous ), an abandoned teddy and a lonely rubber duck on a rack in the bathroom. this house has a lot of charm and it's still pretty haunting.

icy / ghostly

# invitation á la danse by sølve sundsbø for numéro 91 modeled by elena sudakova - i lovelovelove this set so much because of the ghostly feeling about them. you can almost hear the clothes whistleing while the model makes her dance movements. soooo beautiful!
# ice queen katlin aas by unknown for dazed & confused november 2009 - elizabethan era elements combined with modern fashion. and katlin aas does such a good job in being an ice-cold queen! rad!

3. architecture & design.

dream kitchen / clinkers!

# warendorf kitchens by philippe stark - these kitchens are made of my dreams! i especially am in love with the library kitchen, because, BOOKS! room for a lot of books! and i'm not kidding, i would buy a whole lot of cooking books just for this kitchen, even though i'd never have the time to cook, haha.
# villa in the woods by zecc architects - seriously, this house is the epitome of minimalism, but i adore the clinker brick design a lot. i mean, a LOT! the huge windows ( if you haven't noticed: i'm a huge window sucker, ahah :D ) it gets extra bonus points from me.
# young credenza by kenneth nilson - a seethrough armoire with fantastic laser cut work!

4. diversity.

pumpkin special on coilhouse!
next year i definitey will come up with a customized pumpkin a la crocodile or slug, haha :D i love the white ones with the ornamentic work as well. beautiful.
and the video! haha, satanic pumpkin on fire :D

jak&jil has posted awesome spike leggings on his blog! want! need! give! and god, those shoes! why oh why, do i have so little money and so little occassions to wear those?

5. video time.

an amusing video about two lovely cats dealing with halloween craziness! lurve <3

i hope you survive those two days in good condition! don't let the ghosts and saints come too close to you. wether they're good ones or not, everything mystic can be life sucking.

november: kickelhahn, himmelblau & weimar cemetery.

i had a week off in november and visited my parents ( as i often do on my vacations ). on a sunday morning we headed to the thuringian forest to climb onto the peak of the kickelhahn mountain. the kickelhahn mountain is the landmark mountain of the city of ilmenau . johann wolfgang von goethe , the famous writer & philosopher, often visited ilmenau and also climbed the kickelhahn. oftentimes he stopped at a little hut in the woods to relax for a while and on one of these stops he wrote one of his most known poems.  our little adventure didn't last the whole day, though, as we had a little date with the weimar cemetery to look after the grave of my grandparents and then to visit my cousin and his family. tiny peek onto the kickelhahn tower. thuringian woods - deep dark green. at the goethe hut. this plate shows the german version of the poem goethe wrote here. inside the hut. and here's the english translation. i love this poem so much, as ...

july '20: lake petersdorf discoveries and a plea against genocide.

the green wild meadows of malchow's sandfeld. in the west of malchow there is a big chunk of forest that spans towards plauer see, a widely 'uncultivated' area these days, but it hasn't always been this way. in my last post i mentioned the nazi munition factory that had been built in these woods, away from prying eyes of their enemies and where they also built an external subcamp for the concentration camp ravensbrück. exactly these woods we explored on a pretty sunny day, betraying the darkness that happened around these parts. isn't it weird that there are places in this world that were built or used by dark forces and horrible regimes and you vist them 80 years later and they are the most peaceful places you can imagine? sometimes my brain can't cope with the contrast of knowing what was in the past and what the present looks and feels like. it definitely leaves me with a strange impression often, kind of like a little sting in my heart and brain that is not ...
