september '18: horses & golden light.

horses of gut adamstal.

golden days like you see in these pictures are my absolute favourite thing about autumn. the colour turning of the leaves, the last warm rays of the sun touching your body, without the sticky summer feeling of high air moisture, it is what makes my heart sing every autumn. autumn is my homeland, i feel comfortable there, secure and very snug. you could say that i feel very much in my element when autumn rolls in. even the gloomier days, the dark and cloudy ones full of rain and mist are speaking to my soul, sort of showcasing the up and down of moods and atmospheres, my very own wittiness.

we ( the dude and i ) had visited hofgut adamstal on one day, to stroll around the riding stables and grounds and take in the beautiful early autumn weather. hofgut adamstal seems to be perfect for horse loving people, there are extensive paddocks for them horses to roam around, but also various riding halls in case it rains cats and dogs. you can also plan birthday/marriage/whatever events there, they have a few venues that seem to be perfect for this kinda thing.

i am not very much a dedicated horse person, but i like them and i think of them as beautiful animals. i do have quite a lot of respect for them and i always approach them with great attention, and when they grace me with a nod or come closer to have a sniff, it is always a sign that chances are high they might end up approving of me. and when that sniffing process is done and their nostrils breath out hot hair against my palm, i finally feel comfortable enough to stroke their soft nose, or maybe even the sides of their necks. their calming eyes are so deep that you might end up losing yourself a bit in them, not thinking about anything that might be on your mind, just the here and now, sharing a moment with a magical creature.

the adamstal valley is also a wonderful spot in wiesbaden to visit every now and then to recuperate when city life is weighing hard on you and you need a splash of nature. i've been strolling around these grounds a lot of times, even though i never had made it to the estate before, and always i leave feeling revived and reconnected with rural life. that's what's so wonderful about wiesbaden, you never have to stray far for that wonderful dose of nature, it's just around the corner, you just need to get up and going.

a glance at the horse paddocks.

the light that day was just beyond perfect, illuminating the first signs of autumn in a most precious way.

lovely shadowed pathways! when the wind moves through the trees the movement of the shadows is always so enchanting.

japanese maple trees sometimes find their way into the woods as well.

sculptural sceneries like this catch my view quite often. nature provides art in the most easy and charming way.

old wood and high grass.

from where i stood, taking all those pictures in a clearing.

triangled.

there's a tiny stream flowing through the valley, it glittered so delightful in the afternoon's light.

remnants of old walls or street barriers were also illuminated so preciously.

when moss and rocks coalesce.

following more paths...

... and marvelling at the force of nature when seeing a tree that was probably once struck by lightning and broken apart.

the paddocks of the estate adamstal.

an analogy to what i felt throughout most of our dating time. cuddleing horses ❤

these two were absolutely affectionate and sincere 💕

loved this little detail - a pink clothes hook.

there are some buildings around the estate that are used as a bistro/restaurant/cafe, and i think this was one of them. i'm not sure it was open that day, or if they close up in autumn. maybe should check that out eventually, i would love to have some snacks here or eat a good lunch.

the big riding hall. loved the strips of transparent ribbed roof letting light in. from the outside the hall looked utterly in disarray and deserted, but a look inside revealed that while the outside looked abandoned, the inside definitely is used to this day. the history of the estate goes back to the 1950ies and the riding hall was erected in the 1970ies, so i am not surprised that it all looked a little bit worn.

another corner of the hall.

and i leave you with these dirty ribbed windows and little tune: patti smith's horses/land of a thousand dances/la mer.

may '20: seeking modernism.

super pink rhododendron buds emerging! i start off this post with some flower images to appreciate and praise the time of spring, especially the month of may, which is the most abundant spring month to me personally. all the blossoms, all the fresh greens amass during may, and my heart and mind are hardly ever able to not frolick & gush about it all! for this post i am returning to one walk i did with the sole purpose to find a special mid-century villa in königstein ( which would ultimately prove to be a failure - i did find it, but i couldn't approach it properly to have a good look at it and only ever saw a tiny bit of the garden/forest side ). the whole walk was not a letdown, though, as i did find some other mid-century & brutalism gems and thoroughly enjoyed walking through the old spa town in the taunus mountains. rhododendron shrubs yield all kinds of different blossoms in myriad colours, they are easy to breed, therefore a wide variety can be found all over the wor...

autumn impressions.

a selected assortment of autumn related things. ( or things that don't fit into a 'bigger picture' ) i will get around to posting my autumn vacation photos as well. my parents and me visited france a second time and i think it was almost as wonderful as the first time. but i'll get to that soon. moth in front of a vinyl shop window. i bet you know who's smile it is that strikes at you from the record. elvis! i went mushroom hunting again, this time with jasmin, the best mushroom finder i have :) but we didn't have a lot of time together this past autumn, i am very sad to admit this. she's one of our apprentices in the serving area in our market, but recently she's on exchange in a different outlet until january. but soon we'll have her back and our sporadic meetings will stop being sporadic. i think times like these make me realize that there's something worth living for. mostly my life is very grey and i'm so thankful to s...

of dragons & critters and yin & yang kittens.

my cat shadow is a very prolific cat and gives birth to baby sweethearts annually. we always let them grow up until they're old enough to be given away. growing up in a huge garden where they can roam around freely - isn't that the best way to grow up? it's always a joy to visit my parents and my cat in that time of the year. i have also included some pictures of a little rhine trip i made in the middle of may. and the occasional random ones that didn't fit somewhere.  rhine wood dragon. sitting on the rhine beach enjoying the beautiful day. my stone collection of the day. ( i seriously have a lot of stones in my home. i love to collect them! ) the river rhine near eltville. random skull assortment ( shot this at the naxoshalle in frankfurt - i was there for a japanese movie festival ) rosey roses. they also smelled heavenly. raindrops on my window. chameleon tail. i adore spirals. baby kittens drinking momma m...
