october '17: the magic of the wickerbach valley.

entering the autumnal woods.

wiesbaden is surrounded by several little boroughs with rural character - perfect if you want to escape city life once in a while. most of those boroughs are situated in beautiful landscapes as well, with lots of forests, pasture landscapes & tiny mountains. the villages in the east of wiesbaden are often neglected by me when it comes to exploring, but i'm working on remedying that little by little. because as i had to realize once more: the east of wiesbaden's cityscape has quite a lot of surprises to offer! the wickerbach is a small stream that originates in wiesbaden-naurod and makes its way through several eastern suburbs until it flows into the main river in a city called flörsheim. i didn't give this little creek much thought before, it's simply too small to consider it as something that's absolutely worth seeing. but as with everything you should not judge a river or the surrounding environment for its smallness or mediocrity. the reason is simple: that way you will probably miss out on some very enchanting experiences and moments. my walk around the woods of the east and along the wickerbach was probably one of my most favourite walks that autumn. it was an afternoon that started out a bit foggy, but as time passed by the sun fought its way through the clouds and illuminated the valley and the forest in a way that warms your heart and lets you realize again that earth gives you presents all the time, you just need to get out there and let nature work its magic on you.

impatiens glandulifera - also called the gnome's hatstand ( which i really think is cute & funny ) or springkraut in german ( for jump herb ). it's an invasive species, but i really like this plant for it has these little seed capsules that, when ripe enough, catapult the seeds far away as soon as you touch them. it's something i love to do whenever i pass by these plants, it's an urge inside of me and i cannot move on if i didn't pop at least 20 capsules. these plants give off a highly sweet scent, it's almost disgusting, but i say almost, because my brain actually likes this scent ;)

had to walk through this railroad bridge tunnel - it seemed almost bedeviled from this point of view.

the same entry only from a bit further away.

beautiful view at the end of the tunnel.

on the other side the fog revealed a raised hide.

and a restful bank, although i didn't need it at all at this moment since i was just starting out on my little hike.

sleepy wickerbach.

the wickerbach also flows underneath railroad tracks. my mind had the idea to climb down to explore the inside of the tunnel, but then i remembered i had no wellies on my feet and would probably be chased by some tunnel monsters. ( and people would maybe look at me as if i was crazy - even though the paths around here were almost deserted ).

woodsy paradise.

parasol shroomie & nettles.

this speciment of impatiens was especially beautiful.

bright yellow acorn leaves 😍

slowly the sun made its way through the trees. the light was magical. i couldn't stop capturing it.

it was truly delightful ❤

and the yellow of the trees, it was taking my breath away. autumn is just so glorious on sunny days.

you don't need expensive gold when you can have these golden moments for free! it's also much better for the soul.

i slowly made my way back to the starting point of my tour.

a slight remnant of fog billowed like a layer over the landscape. it was almost transcendent.

a last look of the wickerbach valley with its autumnal apparel.

and back through the tunnel - which now you can see wasn't a long one.

more yellow splendor along the way.

autumn, you did it again, making me fall in love with you.

may '20: seeking modernism.

super pink rhododendron buds emerging! i start off this post with some flower images to appreciate and praise the time of spring, especially the month of may, which is the most abundant spring month to me personally. all the blossoms, all the fresh greens amass during may, and my heart and mind are hardly ever able to not frolick & gush about it all! for this post i am returning to one walk i did with the sole purpose to find a special mid-century villa in königstein ( which would ultimately prove to be a failure - i did find it, but i couldn't approach it properly to have a good look at it and only ever saw a tiny bit of the garden/forest side ). the whole walk was not a letdown, though, as i did find some other mid-century & brutalism gems and thoroughly enjoyed walking through the old spa town in the taunus mountains. rhododendron shrubs yield all kinds of different blossoms in myriad colours, they are easy to breed, therefore a wide variety can be found all over the wor...

autumn impressions.

a selected assortment of autumn related things. ( or things that don't fit into a 'bigger picture' ) i will get around to posting my autumn vacation photos as well. my parents and me visited france a second time and i think it was almost as wonderful as the first time. but i'll get to that soon. moth in front of a vinyl shop window. i bet you know who's smile it is that strikes at you from the record. elvis! i went mushroom hunting again, this time with jasmin, the best mushroom finder i have :) but we didn't have a lot of time together this past autumn, i am very sad to admit this. she's one of our apprentices in the serving area in our market, but recently she's on exchange in a different outlet until january. but soon we'll have her back and our sporadic meetings will stop being sporadic. i think times like these make me realize that there's something worth living for. mostly my life is very grey and i'm so thankful to s...

of dragons & critters and yin & yang kittens.

my cat shadow is a very prolific cat and gives birth to baby sweethearts annually. we always let them grow up until they're old enough to be given away. growing up in a huge garden where they can roam around freely - isn't that the best way to grow up? it's always a joy to visit my parents and my cat in that time of the year. i have also included some pictures of a little rhine trip i made in the middle of may. and the occasional random ones that didn't fit somewhere.  rhine wood dragon. sitting on the rhine beach enjoying the beautiful day. my stone collection of the day. ( i seriously have a lot of stones in my home. i love to collect them! ) the river rhine near eltville. random skull assortment ( shot this at the naxoshalle in frankfurt - i was there for a japanese movie festival ) rosey roses. they also smelled heavenly. raindrops on my window. chameleon tail. i adore spirals. baby kittens drinking momma m...
