april '17: signs of life.

johannes maaß elementary school. this new building stems from 2012, and basically is the showcase for the whole school ( that has more buildings, mostly 50ies concrete structures. ) it's really photogenic right?

walking through the wiesbaden neighborhoods in spring is always an eye-opening thing to do. when trees start developing green leaves & budding beautiful blossoms it's like life suddenly wakes up in front of your eyes again, and strangely, your heart warms up and your mind stops to feel disheveled & closed up. there's some kind of joy rising up inside you, where before there was the coldness of winter & a whole lot of numbness in your feelings. i told you before, spring & autumn are my favourite seasons, as they are the most colourful ones to me. those seasons provide this certain kind of colour explosions that i truly love, especially when before there was just grey skies & desolate landscapes ( in spring ) or hot & humid cruelty that invades the mind with fog & headaches ( in autumn ). it's like i perceive life for what it is again, like i realize that life is happening and it's beautiful, despite the constant struggles throughout the year. it always manages to slow me down & focussing my view onto the things that are in front of me. it makes life more bearable.

my little walk in early april lead me through nerotalpark, a beautiful little park surrounded by old villas. on one end of the park you can find our old mountainrail car leading up to the neroberg, the town's landmark mountain & on the other end you dip into the busy life of the inner city again. it is one of my favourite neighborhoods in the whole city.

pink cherry blossoms. those are surely the most majestic sight every spring.

when in past years my eyes never took interest in newer buildings ( except if they were extraordinarily prominent ), these days i love looking for & stumbling over modern architecture. this one is quite an interesting one, unfortunately i couldn't find any information on it.

da steht ein pferd auf dem flur. uhm, a balcony, in this case. ( transl.: there is a horse in the corridor - it's an old german schlager song, just in case you want to check out the link - beware, it might be traumatic ).

beautiful sky blue art nouveau building built by carl krell in 1904.

i love the stylized owl emblem.

and for sure the window details.

magnolia trees in full bloom. what a sight!

the mountainrail car nerobergbahn descending from the neroberg. it's a technical monument - a funicular using water propulsion.

i didn't make my way up to the neroberg, though, instead i walked back into the city through the nerotalpark. daffodils guided my way.

taking photos of tiny blossoms is something i enjoy really much. and i really like the delicate petals of the cuckoo flowers.

a little creek running through the park, called schwarzbach.

i don't know which tree belongs to these blossoms, but it was like a white cloud above my head. simply lovely.

especially when the sun shone through the branches, the blossoms lit up in the purest white imaginable.

and this is what the tree looks like from afar. stunning. also, the birds were twittering bright & lovely songs!

the great forget-me-not or heartleaf.

inside nerotalpark you can find this little deer sculpture walking on a little pond. i love this little gem!

admiring the abundance of colours.

tiny brightly-coloured japanese maple leaves. their delicate features are such a blast. and this colour! so absolutely fresh & young!

contrasting against indeciduous dark green of conifers.

i can never get enough of the pink cherry trees.

deep pink apple tree blossoms.

the sun began to hide again and i made my way back home. passed by those little critters on a nearby schoolyard.

another sculptural something on that yard.

the whole area is actually pretty historic, but construction activities even happen here ( of course old building need to go through renovations as well. )

cultural center tattersall. this was once a former riding hall, but now is a place where concerts, shows, festivities take place. the building was erected in 1905 by albert wolff.

i ended my spring walk up on the schulberg, a hill in the middle of wiesbaden. you can have the best view up here onto the old core of the city, and even look as far as to south-east wiesbaden. the best time to climb the schulberg is in winter, though. then, no green trees are obscuring the view down on the city. always worth it! here you can see the neo-gothic marktkirche ( market church ).

@ kyle - thank you! it's always like a strike if i stumble upon good architecture. even if it means i passed by it millions of other times. but then there's just that moment and you notice something that draws you in and it's perfect.

may '20: seeking modernism.

super pink rhododendron buds emerging! i start off this post with some flower images to appreciate and praise the time of spring, especially the month of may, which is the most abundant spring month to me personally. all the blossoms, all the fresh greens amass during may, and my heart and mind are hardly ever able to not frolick & gush about it all! for this post i am returning to one walk i did with the sole purpose to find a special mid-century villa in königstein ( which would ultimately prove to be a failure - i did find it, but i couldn't approach it properly to have a good look at it and only ever saw a tiny bit of the garden/forest side ). the whole walk was not a letdown, though, as i did find some other mid-century & brutalism gems and thoroughly enjoyed walking through the old spa town in the taunus mountains. rhododendron shrubs yield all kinds of different blossoms in myriad colours, they are easy to breed, therefore a wide variety can be found all over the wor...

autumn impressions.

a selected assortment of autumn related things. ( or things that don't fit into a 'bigger picture' ) i will get around to posting my autumn vacation photos as well. my parents and me visited france a second time and i think it was almost as wonderful as the first time. but i'll get to that soon. moth in front of a vinyl shop window. i bet you know who's smile it is that strikes at you from the record. elvis! i went mushroom hunting again, this time with jasmin, the best mushroom finder i have :) but we didn't have a lot of time together this past autumn, i am very sad to admit this. she's one of our apprentices in the serving area in our market, but recently she's on exchange in a different outlet until january. but soon we'll have her back and our sporadic meetings will stop being sporadic. i think times like these make me realize that there's something worth living for. mostly my life is very grey and i'm so thankful to s...

of dragons & critters and yin & yang kittens.

my cat shadow is a very prolific cat and gives birth to baby sweethearts annually. we always let them grow up until they're old enough to be given away. growing up in a huge garden where they can roam around freely - isn't that the best way to grow up? it's always a joy to visit my parents and my cat in that time of the year. i have also included some pictures of a little rhine trip i made in the middle of may. and the occasional random ones that didn't fit somewhere.  rhine wood dragon. sitting on the rhine beach enjoying the beautiful day. my stone collection of the day. ( i seriously have a lot of stones in my home. i love to collect them! ) the river rhine near eltville. random skull assortment ( shot this at the naxoshalle in frankfurt - i was there for a japanese movie festival ) rosey roses. they also smelled heavenly. raindrops on my window. chameleon tail. i adore spirals. baby kittens drinking momma m...
