closer.

i visited the frankfurt zoo again, this time with l. and my new camera. it was a beautiful day, i wish we could do things like these more often. i'm always a little bit sad about this, because l. is quite different from me. i love being in nature, she's preferring the solitude of her personal 4 walls. but sometimes we meet in the middle and it's always so charming when it happens. but first of a few random pictures shot on a birthday party. already with my new canon powershot sx130 is. i'm in love with this camera. it's bigger than my old one, but it shoots beautiful, beautiful photos.

the moon! have you seen the moon yesterday evening? it was huge and beautiful and surrounded by misty clouds. lovely. ( addition: well, i thought the moon yesterday was huge. but supposedly the moon will be even bigger tonight! hopefully the sky will let the moon shine through the thick clouds! )

i don't really have a clue when it comes to corals and fish. so i let these speak for themselves.

my most favourite animals in the world. meerkats!

they are SO twee!

look at this pork belly! i guess it is pregnant, but... LOOK AT THESE ROLLS!

so fat, so cute, so adorable!

and a picture of l. and me :D we drank slushies!

and here they are, my new tattoos! they're moons, in case you couldn't find out. in fact, they're galileian moons, drawn by galileo galilei :D it's just. i love the moon. i love the symbolic meaning of it and how it affects our everyday lives! don't you catch yourself sometimes looking up at the nightsky, searching for the moon and its soothing lights? i do. that's why i chose it as my tattoo motive. and it also symbolizes a circle and this leads to the circle of life and this leads to my most favourite symbol: uroboros. you could interprete a lot into these moons. and it would all be true.

sorry for blinding you with naked legs of mine.

november: kickelhahn, himmelblau & weimar cemetery.

i had a week off in november and visited my parents ( as i often do on my vacations ). on a sunday morning we headed to the thuringian forest to climb onto the peak of the kickelhahn mountain. the kickelhahn mountain is the landmark mountain of the city of ilmenau . johann wolfgang von goethe , the famous writer & philosopher, often visited ilmenau and also climbed the kickelhahn. oftentimes he stopped at a little hut in the woods to relax for a while and on one of these stops he wrote one of his most known poems.  our little adventure didn't last the whole day, though, as we had a little date with the weimar cemetery to look after the grave of my grandparents and then to visit my cousin and his family. tiny peek onto the kickelhahn tower. thuringian woods - deep dark green. at the goethe hut. this plate shows the german version of the poem goethe wrote here. inside the hut. and here's the english translation. i love this poem so much, as ...

it's that time of the year again.

july '20: lake petersdorf discoveries and a plea against genocide.

the green wild meadows of malchow's sandfeld. in the west of malchow there is a big chunk of forest that spans towards plauer see, a widely 'uncultivated' area these days, but it hasn't always been this way. in my last post i mentioned the nazi munition factory that had been built in these woods, away from prying eyes of their enemies and where they also built an external subcamp for the concentration camp ravensbrück. exactly these woods we explored on a pretty sunny day, betraying the darkness that happened around these parts. isn't it weird that there are places in this world that were built or used by dark forces and horrible regimes and you vist them 80 years later and they are the most peaceful places you can imagine? sometimes my brain can't cope with the contrast of knowing what was in the past and what the present looks and feels like. it definitely leaves me with a strange impression often, kind of like a little sting in my heart and brain that is not ...
