weekly glee # 22 2009.

christmas is getting nearer and nearer, and time speeds up. i'm counting the days until the stress is finally over. i'm already thinking of next year and hope that it will be a bit more relaxing. ( okay, i'm planning to move, but it doesn't really stress me out like these christmas days do, haha :D ). yesterday it snowed for the first time, it wasn't that much though. the mountains near me had more luck, the newspaper showed a white winter wonderland up there. i should drive up and make some photos ( oh, hai new camera <3 - silver one, there wasn't any other colour in the shop, buhu). until then.. some goodies found on the net :D

1. desertions.

almost castle-like / indoor grass

# abandoned train station in abkhazia by dmitry mordolff - two words: truly magnificient! someone should totally renovate this beautiful building. but it's actually pretty fantastic as it is now. reminds you, that there's still this georgian-abkhaz conflict going on with the south ossetian war.
# 'a catskills tradition' by dark_fetus - a huge hotel complex in the catskills mountains which was inspirational for the hotel in the movie 'dirty dancing'. another informative contribution by dark_fetus.
# jakob dylan, as well singer-songwriter as his father, bob dylan, put his home in l.a. on the market. some rooms are very romantic, some rooms are not so much my cup of tea. but all in all it has quite a spanish feel to it, which makes the villa pretty charming.

2. photogenius.

beehive gothic / straightjacketed beauty

# shalom harlow by sanchez & mongiello for numéro 108 - nets over nets. and ballerina influences! and absolutely well shot! ( warning - mild nudity! )
# ginta lapina by greg kadel for numéro 109 - it comes to my mind that numéro magazine must be absolutely goddess-like. i mean. i can't count the numerous good photosets anymore i've seen shot for this magazine! in this set we find a lot of red eye-catchers worn with the best fashion pieces ever! i'd like to wear almost anything that is showed here! 'specially this.
# julia, kamila & sharan by daniel jackson for vogue nippon january 2010 - gothic wave makeup mixed with beehive hair = unusual, but very nice-looking!
# courtney love by yelena yemchuk for dazed & confused january 2010 - even though miss love is quite an enfant terrible i like her photoshoots pretty much! they always have that pure and true feeling. ( warning - another nudity shot! )

3. architecture & design.

eye-boggleing / book heaven

# joe cariati's glassblown creations - stunning! i need those for my bathroom! immediately!
# digitally fabricated bookshelf by dbd studio - o.m.g. that is everything that comes to my mind when seeing this mind blowing shelf! i mean. how amazing is that?

4. diversity.

lovely doe deere / candyfuture lipsticks

doe deere of doedeereblogazine.com reminded me of her great candy cane crown outfit she wore last year for a shoot. she's truly amazing, having launched her superdelicious lipstick line with colours like turtoise blue and lavender lilac! they have the best names like: 'no she didn't', 'd'lilac', 'retrofuturist' & 'styletto'. and they're all so intense!

mom blogger heather armstrong of dooce.com baked some christmas cookies. for the first time! this blog post is the most hilarious thing i've read all week. she's a true sarcastic/ironic and a great inspiration to me! her blog entries almost always make me laugh! ( + she has the cutest kids! )

want to have the moon by your side? these russian fellows have created their own moon reality! the photos are so fantastic. this should belong into all bedrooms in the world.

november: kickelhahn, himmelblau & weimar cemetery.

i had a week off in november and visited my parents ( as i often do on my vacations ). on a sunday morning we headed to the thuringian forest to climb onto the peak of the kickelhahn mountain. the kickelhahn mountain is the landmark mountain of the city of ilmenau . johann wolfgang von goethe , the famous writer & philosopher, often visited ilmenau and also climbed the kickelhahn. oftentimes he stopped at a little hut in the woods to relax for a while and on one of these stops he wrote one of his most known poems.  our little adventure didn't last the whole day, though, as we had a little date with the weimar cemetery to look after the grave of my grandparents and then to visit my cousin and his family. tiny peek onto the kickelhahn tower. thuringian woods - deep dark green. at the goethe hut. this plate shows the german version of the poem goethe wrote here. inside the hut. and here's the english translation. i love this poem so much, as ...

july '20: lake petersdorf discoveries and a plea against genocide.

the green wild meadows of malchow's sandfeld. in the west of malchow there is a big chunk of forest that spans towards plauer see, a widely 'uncultivated' area these days, but it hasn't always been this way. in my last post i mentioned the nazi munition factory that had been built in these woods, away from prying eyes of their enemies and where they also built an external subcamp for the concentration camp ravensbrück. exactly these woods we explored on a pretty sunny day, betraying the darkness that happened around these parts. isn't it weird that there are places in this world that were built or used by dark forces and horrible regimes and you vist them 80 years later and they are the most peaceful places you can imagine? sometimes my brain can't cope with the contrast of knowing what was in the past and what the present looks and feels like. it definitely leaves me with a strange impression often, kind of like a little sting in my heart and brain that is not ...
