weekly glee # 21 2009.

i don't really feel like christmas lately, work really is stressful these days. some colleagues got sick and it's a lot of work for those, who remain. i don't really have a clue what to buy as presents, i wanted to visit the sternschnuppenmarkt here in wiesbaden, but then end up at home again, since i'm so groggy. so to cheer me up ( and maybe some of you ), here's my weekly list of loved goodies found on the net.

1. desertions.

# neutief-luftwaffe air-base in the kaliningrad region by tbsf - beautiful pictures of european history.
# druid ridge cemetary & the death of transfiguration by the hoodwatch - the cemetary is so breathtaking! i love how the hoodwatch manages to make those sculptures look like they'd start walking and moving in the next few minutes. also, the church is still so magnificient, even though it's in such a state of demolition. it's kind of sad and unfair to see something so wonderful vanish from the world's surface.
# victory building by tune - amazing detail photos of abandoned things.
# the treehouse on luxist.com - heath ledger has lived in here and i must say, he had one very good taste in houses. all the trees and plants are absolutely producing a feel of living in a tree house. it must be great, to relax here after a hard day of work. there are more pictures here.
# collection of abandoned houses via 100abandonedhouses.com - absolutely stunning! if i had the money, i would renovate most of these gorgeous houses, so people can live in there again. these pictures make me want to start my own abandoned houses project!

2. photogenius.

# 'jeunesse dorée' by markus pritzi for tush - this set is absolutely poetic. i almost have no words for it. everything is just beyond perfect and so full of emotions. one of my very favourite sets as of now.
# kim min hee & lee hyuk soo by zo sun hi for vogue korea december 2009 - another amazing tutorial inspired of tim burton's ingeniousity. this time: the corpse bride!
# jessica stam by benjamin alexander huseby for harper's bazaar september 2009 - the decade of the 50ies revisited! i love the glowy mood these pictures suggest! and never did someone look so good with a salad leaf on her head, haha :D
# valentina zeliaeva by richard bush for elle us september 2009 - this is also one of my most fathomed photosets of all time. all breezy and windy and the shooooes! i'd like all of them, haha :D

3. diversity.

let me introduce you to the photodiarist, a photographer from new york who captures this city in the most wonderful way - black and white photography. also, sometimes in colour. recently he/she (?) visited marakech and the pictures are just breathtaking.

another introduction: eva tanguay, the first rock star. this woman was just fascinating. a vaudeville rebel. love!

4. video time.

haha, this kitty is just hilarious!

dogs are decorating the christmas tree! wonderfully trained!

the beatles . help
an absolute classic! and how handsome john lennon was. makes me sad.

the white stripes . as ugly as i seem
well, i'm a huge white stripes fan for years now, and this is one of my most favourite songs of the band.

so, hopefully your christmas time is brightened up for another week!

november: kickelhahn, himmelblau & weimar cemetery.

i had a week off in november and visited my parents ( as i often do on my vacations ). on a sunday morning we headed to the thuringian forest to climb onto the peak of the kickelhahn mountain. the kickelhahn mountain is the landmark mountain of the city of ilmenau . johann wolfgang von goethe , the famous writer & philosopher, often visited ilmenau and also climbed the kickelhahn. oftentimes he stopped at a little hut in the woods to relax for a while and on one of these stops he wrote one of his most known poems.  our little adventure didn't last the whole day, though, as we had a little date with the weimar cemetery to look after the grave of my grandparents and then to visit my cousin and his family. tiny peek onto the kickelhahn tower. thuringian woods - deep dark green. at the goethe hut. this plate shows the german version of the poem goethe wrote here. inside the hut. and here's the english translation. i love this poem so much, as ...

in the forests.

it's that time of the year again.

july '20: lake petersdorf discoveries and a plea against genocide.

the green wild meadows of malchow's sandfeld. in the west of malchow there is a big chunk of forest that spans towards plauer see, a widely 'uncultivated' area these days, but it hasn't always been this way. in my last post i mentioned the nazi munition factory that had been built in these woods, away from prying eyes of their enemies and where they also built an external subcamp for the concentration camp ravensbrück. exactly these woods we explored on a pretty sunny day, betraying the darkness that happened around these parts. isn't it weird that there are places in this world that were built or used by dark forces and horrible regimes and you vist them 80 years later and they are the most peaceful places you can imagine? sometimes my brain can't cope with the contrast of knowing what was in the past and what the present looks and feels like. it definitely leaves me with a strange impression often, kind of like a little sting in my heart and brain that is not ...
