weekly glee # 9 2009

i'm back with a lot of pretty, beautiful and interesting things i discovered the last two weeks. sorry, for the massive overload, heh.

lately i seem to find a lot of great architectural designs and i thought i'd open up a new section: architecture & design. hope you like this :D

okay, let's begin!

1. desertions.

book desk in a hospital /piano in pioneer camp

# old houses in the uk by zafania - i swear, the united kingdom must have the most romantic and beautiful little cottages in the whole wide world. this series is about houses which have been shops in former times. i could easily imagine these as some art studio-like complex with flats on the upper floors! i'd move in there immediately :P
# abandoned manor of a merchant by alexdoomer2009 - okay, i admit it, i love alexdoomer2009's excursions to russian abandonments. i'm secretly in love with russia, did you know that? this manor is beyond awesome! & click onto more castles here & here. he also shot an abandoned glass, very edgy!
# abandoned pioneer camp by iso_27002 - another russian themed set! i love the many details of these pictures, the fallen leaves, the crumbling paint. i'm also very smitten with another set from this photographer: the abandoned hospital.
# highgate cemetary by moscowlondon - many ol' graves of long gone celebrities ( karl marx, hello! )
# bobcat high 1949 - 2009 by thehoodwatch - a very interesting insight of a school abandoned very recently. thehoodwatch is pretty much the raddest photographer ever! he finds ways into old and lost building you would never imagine! take a look at megatron power for example!

2. photogenius.

milla jovovich / at the lake

# caroline trentini, heather marks, jennifer pugh, lisa cant by paolo roversi for vogue italia 2005 - paolo roversi is the only photographer who always amazes me with his pictures! his work is so moody and full of secrets and hidden details and just really fantastic. i have never NOT liked a photo set by him, he's an outstanding photographer. this set is another hommage to old times, which he seems to like quite a lot. parisian chic from renaissance/baroque times! here's one of his newest sets found on haute macabre! i'm craving for the bigger scans!
# an unpleasant wedding night by liselotte eriksson - this is by far one of my favourite recent photography set! it's disturbing and beautiful at the same time! liselotte eriksson is a very talented artist, doing exceptional photographs & drawings with so much creativity!
# milla jovovich by igor vishnyakov for harper's bazaar russia 2009 - for me, milla jovovich is the epitome of a russian woman and her beauty is not from this world. i always loved her striking eyes, so intense! in this shot she wears a fair amount of clothes all extraordinaire and she wears them well!

3. architecture & design.

vulcanized fibre stool / brickstoned house

# hechima 5 by ryuji nakamura - this sitting construct would do good for picknicks and evenings outside. but i'd also very much like it in my living room instead of the gym ball i have as supporting help for my little diseased rump.
# the mews house by TAKA architects - i love the brickwork on this house, it's literally outstanding! i guess this is one of the most natural appearing houses i've seen lately, i'm in love with the interiors ( wooden floors, brickstone walls, huge windows and doors ). well. all i can say is that this is my recent dream house!
# deco sofa by autoban - this sofa looks so comfortable! it also looks like you can divide it into a chair, which is really cool!

4. diversity.

tom felton.
i'm sorry to appear as a fangirl, but oh em gee, is that guy hot on his latest pictures?
oh and he's a twitterer so that's why i found out about these pictures. and now i shush up about it.

panda bread for real!
this is the cutest idea ever! well, someday, i will try it out.

5. recent viewing.

gossip . heavy cross
i came onto this band via my mom, which is funny, because i always was the one who recommended music to HER. i have heard of beth ditto before, newest muse of karl lagerfeld, but i didn't care for the music until now. i find it very great that she gives a shit about her big body and wears beautiful wardrobe nonetheless. and she looks great! but that's not important here, i found her voice to be extraordinairy great and the music stays in your ears for a while! listen! goosebump feeling!

lady gaga . paparazzi
lady gaga's new song 'paparazzi' is not new for me anymore, but i still like it! especially the video! the crazy amount of eye-blowing outfits kills me almost everytime. and the best: minnie mouse'ed clothes!

november: kickelhahn, himmelblau & weimar cemetery.

i had a week off in november and visited my parents ( as i often do on my vacations ). on a sunday morning we headed to the thuringian forest to climb onto the peak of the kickelhahn mountain. the kickelhahn mountain is the landmark mountain of the city of ilmenau . johann wolfgang von goethe , the famous writer & philosopher, often visited ilmenau and also climbed the kickelhahn. oftentimes he stopped at a little hut in the woods to relax for a while and on one of these stops he wrote one of his most known poems.  our little adventure didn't last the whole day, though, as we had a little date with the weimar cemetery to look after the grave of my grandparents and then to visit my cousin and his family. tiny peek onto the kickelhahn tower. thuringian woods - deep dark green. at the goethe hut. this plate shows the german version of the poem goethe wrote here. inside the hut. and here's the english translation. i love this poem so much, as ...

in the forests.

it's that time of the year again.

july '20: lake petersdorf discoveries and a plea against genocide.

the green wild meadows of malchow's sandfeld. in the west of malchow there is a big chunk of forest that spans towards plauer see, a widely 'uncultivated' area these days, but it hasn't always been this way. in my last post i mentioned the nazi munition factory that had been built in these woods, away from prying eyes of their enemies and where they also built an external subcamp for the concentration camp ravensbrück. exactly these woods we explored on a pretty sunny day, betraying the darkness that happened around these parts. isn't it weird that there are places in this world that were built or used by dark forces and horrible regimes and you vist them 80 years later and they are the most peaceful places you can imagine? sometimes my brain can't cope with the contrast of knowing what was in the past and what the present looks and feels like. it definitely leaves me with a strange impression often, kind of like a little sting in my heart and brain that is not ...
