weekly glee #7 2009.

hello m'dears, it's time for gleeful things again!

i decided to split this project in 3 parts which will be 'desertions', 'photogenius', and 'diversity'.

because every week i find something wonderful in those sections.

1. desertions.

# decaying detroit by caseyj. metropolitan building and a warehouse in the warehouse district. beautiful compositions! i especially loved the chair ones and the one with the toilet ( poop here! haha ).
# montzen by elektrocute. handsome abandoned trainstation or depot! i love the details in here, like the bird nest or the blue doors.
# three shelters by dj_axle. i have a huge interest in all kind of churches, because the architectural work is one of the greatest humans ever invented. this church is situated in buffalo and called church of transfiguration. and oh, and what a church it is. truly gorgeous in its decay.

2. photogenius.

# keira knightley by annie leibovitz for vogue us 2005. a wizard of oz-based photoshoot by the wonderful annie leibovitz! oh the colours in these! purr-fect!
# mariacarla boscono by peter lindbergh. i really think that mariacarla boscono has some features you can't forget. her face is very remarkable to me. not that average beautiful face of a model, but something different, more subtle and hidden.
# photography of hedi slimane. he's doin' the greatest portaits ever ( including jethro cave, remember? there's LOTS of jethro in this mix of photographic works. ) and don't be put off by the many young man at the beginning of the post! there's a lot of better ones in the middle and at the end. especially the ones about the army and the ones that are punk-inspired! ( oh, of course i can't seem to ignore those gorgeous guys, haha! )
# photography of denis rouvre. his photography is similar to hedi slimane's, very minimal but with a huge focus on facial expressions. i love that!
# and again, i have a most favourite ( which is shown as a picture above ) of helena bonham carter shot by bryan adams ( is it really the singer bryan adams? yes, it is him! ). i love helena bonham carter, she plays the most quirky and strange woman in her movies and it takes a lot to be so authentic in a role. i loved her in the new harry potter movie ( the movie itself had great style by the way! ) as well, as in her older movies and my most favourite one of her is 'a room with a view'.

3. diversity.

lollipop pies by luxirare.

this is the most fantasting and precious and useful thing ever: pies on a stick! oh my, i should try this out, but i KNOW that it will not turn out as good as these! what an invention, for me as a pie maniac, this would be heaven!

the ansley park glass house in atlanta.

visit this fantastic site: the contemporist! it's a treasure! modern architecture and clean styles mixed with furniture making. my heart bleeds so much when looking at these houses! well, at least i can dream.

and now some videos.

blitzen trapper - furr

this video is first: amazing, and secondly: a great listen! the songtext is the best.

Chocolate Bunny from lernert Engelberts on Vimeo.

and to see this chocolate bunny melt, is kind of sad, but still my mouth gets watery looking at this!

hope you have a nice week!

november: kickelhahn, himmelblau & weimar cemetery.

i had a week off in november and visited my parents ( as i often do on my vacations ). on a sunday morning we headed to the thuringian forest to climb onto the peak of the kickelhahn mountain. the kickelhahn mountain is the landmark mountain of the city of ilmenau . johann wolfgang von goethe , the famous writer & philosopher, often visited ilmenau and also climbed the kickelhahn. oftentimes he stopped at a little hut in the woods to relax for a while and on one of these stops he wrote one of his most known poems.  our little adventure didn't last the whole day, though, as we had a little date with the weimar cemetery to look after the grave of my grandparents and then to visit my cousin and his family. tiny peek onto the kickelhahn tower. thuringian woods - deep dark green. at the goethe hut. this plate shows the german version of the poem goethe wrote here. inside the hut. and here's the english translation. i love this poem so much, as ...

in the forests.

it's that time of the year again.

july '20: lake petersdorf discoveries and a plea against genocide.

the green wild meadows of malchow's sandfeld. in the west of malchow there is a big chunk of forest that spans towards plauer see, a widely 'uncultivated' area these days, but it hasn't always been this way. in my last post i mentioned the nazi munition factory that had been built in these woods, away from prying eyes of their enemies and where they also built an external subcamp for the concentration camp ravensbrück. exactly these woods we explored on a pretty sunny day, betraying the darkness that happened around these parts. isn't it weird that there are places in this world that were built or used by dark forces and horrible regimes and you vist them 80 years later and they are the most peaceful places you can imagine? sometimes my brain can't cope with the contrast of knowing what was in the past and what the present looks and feels like. it definitely leaves me with a strange impression often, kind of like a little sting in my heart and brain that is not ...
