ghost of nature.

march is always a month that leaves me in a waiting position. there is rarely anything to do in march, and the transitioning of winter into spring also hasn't started yet. it's kind of a bleak month to me. it's the only month where i rarely shoot photos and i'm craving for spring already, being fed up with winter.  morning moments. the sun sometimes puts funny light apparitions on my walls. the ringkirche ( ring church ). just a random take while i was on errands in the town. my little money tree is happily growing bigger and bigger! this march i was able to witness the penumbral sun eclipse , quite extraordinary happening it was, but i guess it will never compare to the total eclipse in 1999 - i remember that one clearly, because it happened at a time when our time was on the cusp of a new millenium and i remember all the apocalypse theories that surrounded it. the event itself was great - we made vacations in hungary and were by the lak...

in early march i attented a big birthday party - the father of a friend celebrated his 50th - and it took place in a beautiful old mill in the state of saarland . his wife decorated the mill with a lot of beautiful candle holders and fine drapery. as the light was quickly fading away i managed to take a few photos from outside the mill. it was the first beautiful day in a while. i love this photo, especially because my friend jumped into it in such a gracious way :) the mill's back side. the mill canal. the water belongs to the river prims . a little window detail. nice window. delicious cakes. i think i tried all of them and there were even more! i was basically in cake heaven. when the party was over we gathered all the candle holders in one place. all of them were created by the birthday boy's wife, she's a potter and sculptor and generally has a knack for creating beautiful things. in the middle of the night -...

it was still cold outside, but when the sun is shining and a hike promises new perspectives, the coldness melts into warmth. we drove to bingen and took one of the many hiking trails around this charming little city. old vineyards, signs of an upcoming spring, valued family time - ingredients for a beautiful day. the middle rhine valley and surrounding regions are known for their perfect winegrowing areas. literally everything revolves around wine here. i'm not an excessive wine drinker ( occasionally i love to drink the best of the best: auslese & riesling wines ), but i can attest that the wines from here belong to the best in the world, really. for people who work in this profession it's the elixir of life. they are really committed to it. the vineyards are also the oldest in the world. they've been growing wine here for hundreds of years - dating back to the dark ages at least. opalescent stones. i had a hard time catching this fella, ...
