september '17: fall gradients.

racy porsche in modern ambience.

autumn is most beautiful when the sun's shining and the red/orange/yellow/brown hues are emphasized double the amount than normal. when i have time off and the weather's all clear & shiny you will definitely not hold me back from heading outside. on this late september day i decided to head for a walk near my workplace and went in for a treat as the trees & bushes changed their green summer dresses into the colourful gradients that autumn always brings to us. on days like these, love washes over me in bouts, almost too much to handle.

post-modernism is very present in wiesbaden as well, and ( actually really surprising to me ) especially in residential buildings.

loved the colours of this house and how it perfectly matched the changing leaves of the growth nearby.

rowan berry overload.

beautiful garden terrace of an arts & craft mansion built by karl kähler in 1910.

this monumental building is part of the bka - the federal criminal agency.

love how the sun illuminates this house and the trees in the back.

golden tips.

i really, definitely, absolutely cannot resist the bright red autumn foliage.

shriveling up.

around the corner of the neighborhood you can find crop fields, a forest and a few allotments. walking there was wonderful, with all the glorious different colours nature had on offer. the sun shining brightly absolutely made it even prettier.

the scenery was truly idyllic.

this wooden contemporary dwelling was another perfect fit for an autumnal setting.

the path to the wood house. it was really hidden and did not provide a lot of good point of views. but it was still intriguing enough to be proper dream house material.

more contemporary architecture amidst older fabrics.

this had the mood of a light house somehow. also, very bauhaus-y.

coming across this house felt like a revelation! let's take a look at the details, for example the crowns on the gate columns! the blue/white/yellow colouring is also worth mentioning.
the buildings in this area called 'eigenheim' are mainly from the early 1900s which, as you learned by now, is the era of art nouveau. i plan to return here and explore the neighborhood a bit more, because there are so! many! art nouveau houses here!

quirky elements like the knot in the railing or the newspaper mail thing were giving me tiny heart attacks. i love when there's such an attention to detail or a home owner converts their place into a piece of art!

the gateway was another detail i loved, with its art deco gate & the rocks. such a pleasure to the eye!

turrets & brickstones.

the staghorn sumac tree ( in the back ) is one of those trees that delights you with beautifully changing leaves.

great trump portrait by frank hoppmann on a poster!

the houses in eigenheim are distinctly art nouveau, but with a twist. they're not as elaborately designed as most of the representative houses downtown and they have elements that remind me of art deco. i like to imagine that these houses were early trailblazers of art deco ;)

the first foundations for the eigenheim settlement were laid in 1903, but most houses were built a few years later. this wall piece greets you at the actual entry to the original settlement, even though eigenheim now is a little bigger and more wide-spread.

may '20: seeking modernism.

super pink rhododendron buds emerging! i start off this post with some flower images to appreciate and praise the time of spring, especially the month of may, which is the most abundant spring month to me personally. all the blossoms, all the fresh greens amass during may, and my heart and mind are hardly ever able to not frolick & gush about it all! for this post i am returning to one walk i did with the sole purpose to find a special mid-century villa in königstein ( which would ultimately prove to be a failure - i did find it, but i couldn't approach it properly to have a good look at it and only ever saw a tiny bit of the garden/forest side ). the whole walk was not a letdown, though, as i did find some other mid-century & brutalism gems and thoroughly enjoyed walking through the old spa town in the taunus mountains. rhododendron shrubs yield all kinds of different blossoms in myriad colours, they are easy to breed, therefore a wide variety can be found all over the wor...

autumn impressions.

a selected assortment of autumn related things. ( or things that don't fit into a 'bigger picture' ) i will get around to posting my autumn vacation photos as well. my parents and me visited france a second time and i think it was almost as wonderful as the first time. but i'll get to that soon. moth in front of a vinyl shop window. i bet you know who's smile it is that strikes at you from the record. elvis! i went mushroom hunting again, this time with jasmin, the best mushroom finder i have :) but we didn't have a lot of time together this past autumn, i am very sad to admit this. she's one of our apprentices in the serving area in our market, but recently she's on exchange in a different outlet until january. but soon we'll have her back and our sporadic meetings will stop being sporadic. i think times like these make me realize that there's something worth living for. mostly my life is very grey and i'm so thankful to s...

of dragons & critters and yin & yang kittens.

my cat shadow is a very prolific cat and gives birth to baby sweethearts annually. we always let them grow up until they're old enough to be given away. growing up in a huge garden where they can roam around freely - isn't that the best way to grow up? it's always a joy to visit my parents and my cat in that time of the year. i have also included some pictures of a little rhine trip i made in the middle of may. and the occasional random ones that didn't fit somewhere.  rhine wood dragon. sitting on the rhine beach enjoying the beautiful day. my stone collection of the day. ( i seriously have a lot of stones in my home. i love to collect them! ) the river rhine near eltville. random skull assortment ( shot this at the naxoshalle in frankfurt - i was there for a japanese movie festival ) rosey roses. they also smelled heavenly. raindrops on my window. chameleon tail. i adore spirals. baby kittens drinking momma m...
