alien life forms in a residential area in the district of biebrich.
summer walks are not as enjoyable to me as the ones i like to do in spring or autumn, because it's simply too warm. but time again i still venture out, mainly because the walls of my flat would cave in on me otherwise. there are days sometimes where you don't want to stay in and bum around like the useless human being you are, but instead want to see what the outside world has to offer. in this particular case i decided to have a look at some areas of the wiesbaden district of biebrich. i ended up not exploring as much as i initially wanted to because the humidity and warmthness of the day made me blow up internally, but i still sat down by the lake in the palace garden of biebrich castle, which was totally overgrown with algae & watched some little ducklings exploring their home with their mommas. it was a serene scenery, especially with the algae growth on the lake. it looked so alien & reminded me of the time a few years ago when we visited the east-frisian island of borkum. that island felt like a marsian place as well.
you rarely find those clothing lines in backyards anymore and stumbling upon these feels like something that happened like 5 centuries ago and not in modern times. like a relict of the past.
church of the sacred heart of jesus. was built in 1897/98 to house the growing catholic population of the industrial north of biebrich.
there was a happening going on around the church, so i didn't dare to get a closer look or going inside.
instead i took some photos of the rather blue-collar worker surroundings.
pretty nice vice graffiti. i am wondering though, what was so immoral that it actually warranted this little art outcry.
it was finally time to stop exploring and going back to rest my overheated body in the park of biebrich castle. i rarely visit this place, even though it is really, really nice. i have never seen the lake in such a state, though, with all these algaes growing on it. probably has something to do with climate warming and much too strong solar radiation.
the water birds didn't care, though, and still made their way through those thick carpets of waterplants. like these coots.
even though it probably wasn't a normal thing to happen, the lake still looked quite nice with all the bright green patterns on it.
i never get over how cute ducklings are with their fluffly feather plumage.
the artificial castle ruin inside the palace garden.
i imagine these ducks were equally as bugged out by the warm weather as i was, haha.
the orangery of the castle garden.
some nice overgrown adjoining building.
really loved the textures & shadows of the timber-framed walls.
on a different day i made a short visit to frankfurt ( meeting up with my dearest frankfurt friend for a cake adventure :) ). i only made a handful of photos, but it made me realize again that i really should make more time for this city in the future. there's so much to discover, especially in terms of architecture! consider this my next big project - discovering frankfurt little by little.
some random puppy street art.
it always amazes me that when you visit the city center you are never too far away from the skyscraper district. it still is fascinating for me to see these huge buildings today, there's something so futuristic about it, my mind can never really grasp whether this is a real scenery or not. this was shot on the roßmarkt.
the building in the front is the junior-haus and once housed a huge mercedes benz show room ( that's why you can still see the mercedes star on the roof ). upon seeing it i was immediately intrigued and fell in love with its obvious mid-century style. turns out it was built in 1951, so yay for correctly guessing its birth date ;) what i like the most about it is the winding staircase with the golden elements. the architect was wilhelm berentzen.
a better picture of the whole building. i really dig the grey/golden combo of the whole building. in the back you can see the 148 meter high eurotower.
and a detail shot of the staircase. love. it.
there are several mid century places in frankfurt ( it was heavily bombarded during world war 2 & a lot of the inner city was rebuilt during the 50ies ). what always strikes me as really charming is the fact you can still find the historic tidbits of old frankfurt everywhere. and in combination with the new architecture it just makes for the most interesting juxtapositions. i love capturing these contradicting elements, just like in this photo! two of my favourite things in one picture, geometric simplicity & dramatic opulence. ( shot at the parking garage konstablerwache - which was built 1959 ).
