the fasanerie, our local animal park, is one of my absolute favourite places in wiesbaden. i try to visit at least twice a year, sometimes even more, depends on how much i crave seeing animals, haha. there is nothing much to add here, because i clearly posted about this place quite a lot in the past. every now and then they re-install/re-build new compounds for the animals, and it's always great to see them in a bigger and more adventurous habitat. like the old compounds always tend to be quite small, and even though i know that them animals are not fit for the wilderness, you still, as a visitor, want them to have a place they can move around in and spread out and not turn crazy. so i truly support every innovation they invest in & donate as much as i'm able to, to keep this animal park ( that, by the way, takes not entrance fees at all! ) going.
relaxing deer.
that stag got quite beautiful antlers.
storks and geese sharing food.
the eagle owls & falcons have a new home & i paid them a tiny visit. you cannot get very close to them yet, as they still have to acclimatize to their new surroundings. i managed to sneak close enough to get this shot.
and of course the peregrine falcons made their way into my lens as well.
racoon hanging out in the trees. in terms of laziness these animals remind me a little bit too much of myself :P
wildcat roaming around in her habitat.
foxes have these magnificent furs that i never get tired looking at. look at that majestic tail.
exploring. the fox compound is another new addition to the fasanerie and it's absolutely beautiful! there is an external enclosure & the internal one which is built like a fox den. you can go through that cave-like structure and see them inside their dens. the cave building also houses badgers & mice ( i haven't seen both of them yet, they hide well - especially the badgers when they go into hibernation. )
all in all, i'm glad the foxes are back, it's been quite a while and i surely missed them.
on another wonderful autumn day when the trees were especially colourful & the weather exeptionally nice i had a little city walk again.
the building of the wiesbadener volksbank ( local bank ) reflects the opposite buildings of the music academy.
dernsches gelände with city hall, marktkirche & various other buildings. ( left to right )
i really love this church with its dramatic neo-gothic facade.
apartment dwelling 'vier jahreszeiten' ( four seasons ). i always loved the awnings with the wiesbaden lilies on them.
pariser hof once was a hotel for jewish people, nowadays it houses a theater & a museum about jewish life & history.
hotel nassauer hof facing from the courtyard.
geometries.
one of the most ugly buildings in the city has been torn down recently, the kureck tower. architects will cover the area with new buildings & a new tower which is going to be a very prestigious & extravagant project. a lot of expensive apartment/villa complexes will be developed & of course various office blocks. i'm quite a bit curious to see what it will look like in the end. i'm not really into the luxurious aspects of the whole endeavour, still i am excited for the architectural details.
wiesbaden stands on a few hills, which means it's quite cellared. the entries to these cellars you can find everywhere around the city.
fairly new apartment complexes. simple & clean lines.
autumnal leaves against clinker bricks.
the area i mainly walked around is called nordost, and it's full of historic & modern villas. i work in that district as well! it's a pretty wealthy neighbourhood, also very quiet and idyllic.
golden treetops.
never tire of these hues.
autumn surely enchants with its warm colours.
passed by this uninhabited house. wish i would've been able to explore it more and take better pictures. i really liked the layout and how it was surrounded with plants & trees.
another point of view of the house. i'd say it was built in the 70ies or 80ies, judging that it was already in slight disrepair. wonder if it's still for sale.
fire coloured trees are my favourite ones.
another 60ies/70ies apartment complex, right next to where i work. these houses have a really beautiful vista over the rambach valley.
behind the complex you can find an abundance of garden plots. i was really surprised discovering these. it felt very rural.
i LOVE this house & the front garden is pretty interesting, too. it's so manicured, but at the same time it draws you in. i really would like to know what the back of the house looks like. unfortunately i feel quite creepy taking photographs inside residential areas, so i rarely take more than one sneaky picture.
more modern architecture.
lots of houses in nordost were built after world war II in the 50ies to 70ies. they're not always my cup of tea, but i'd say they have their very own charm a lot of the times.
let's enter a hidden alleyway where i met a very special someone.
this squirrel shuffled around above my head inside the trees. i stood there for quite some time and watched it. it didn't run away so i figured it was time to get out the camera and shoot a few pictures of this tiny fluffball.
it surely was the cutest munchkin! i felt truly blessed spending these special moments with it and being able to take these great shots.
after this picture it had enough and jumped out of my sight into other trees nearby!
historical front garden. amongst all the modern villas and mansions you can also find these historic gems.
this clearly has a bauhaus feeling to it.
seeing these balconies i am reminded of how much i'd really like to have one, too :(
walking back to my place via the kurpark. these colours 😍
concert shell of the kurpark. in summer there are often classical concerts taking place here.
theater car park with interesting facade. this is especially cool when sun light is refracted inside these windows. i always have a hard time capturing this building because of the reflecting surfaces.
anyways, i still like it a lot, i love everything that has many windows, haha.
more brutalist architecture. this one is another bank building.
i sat down in front of the building to enjoy the last sunrays of the evening.

another construction site, right in my neighbourhood: rheinmain congress center. the old one got torn down ( they even found an old world war bomb in the grounds ) and now they're erecting a new & bigger one. it's going to open in 2018.
and this concludes the month of october! i know, i needed quite some time to finish this month, but there were too many things happening in october! vacation time always leaves me with hundreds of pictures, it's just that i get to explore the world more and visit more places. now onto november ( which wasn't that chockful of happenings, don't worry :P )
