after showing you the cathedral of speyer, now is the time for the city itself.
siegfried kills the dragon. it's part of the st.georg fountain.
doves love the fountain as well.
a unicorn on a roof. i love extraordinary apexes like this. the building houses a pharmacy that's called after the unicorn apex and it's also one of the oldest pharmacies of germany.
the altpörtel ( old gate ). it's one of the very few remains of the old town wall, and the most impressive one.
next to the gate was this beautiful florist. i loved the sign. the people who own the shop are called nothhelfer which basically means helper in need, which just perfectly fits the idea of being a helper to all kinds of floral problems, don't you think?
the postgalerie ( formerly the post directorate of speyer ) on the left, the beautiful building am altpörtel in the middle and the altpörtel on the right. it's such a great ensemble with three different architectural styles.
church st. joseph. speyer has many churches.
inside the church.
the interior was kind of really elegant.
and the light was amazing.

the church was really, really impressing. it was a dark one, but this darkness made the window art stand out even more.
st. joseph's from afar. this was a test shot, to see if my camera was working after the hard fall.
and one more test shot at a cafe we chose to enjoy some coffee and cake. this building is another church in speyer: st. ludwig's.
after our visit at the cafe we roamed through the hasenpfuhl, an old part of the inner city.
i love old cities, they're always so peaceful. the speyerbach.
fat cat of the day.
we then proceeded to the river rhine, which is really narrow here, compared to where i come from in wiesbaden. which is of course logical, because speyer is situated in the upper rhine plain. it was really interesting to see the ships and boats maneuver around each other.
the beautiful weather contributed to a nice atmosphere.
cathedral towers in the distance. we slowly walked back into the city again.
fährmann, hol' über. this sculpture was created by georg günther zeuner and it shows the ghosts of the 8 german emperors who are buried inside the cathedral. they left their last resting-place to call the ferryman on the other side of the rhine,
i adore this sculpture pretty much,
here we have a great part of a playground created by fred feuerstein. the spider is really popular with the kids and i really liked it, too ;)
view onto the historical museum of the palatinate.
the museum upfront. maybe i'm revisiting speyer just because of the exhibition alone: detectives, agents & spies.
speyer also has a huge technic museum, which exhibits planes, submarines and trains and all kinds of apparatuses. here you can see a lufthansa plane, which is basically the signboard of the museum.
saying good-bye to the cathedral.
