july: surprises in hinterland.

my grandmother and grandfather had decided to celebrate both their birthdays in a small village called laucha, which is situated in an area near the city gotha you could easily call urban hinterland. it's always as if you enter a place where time has stopped for quite some time or at least it goes a little slower.
my grandparents came to the party with an old trabant, which is the epitome of ostalgie ( a word that derives from east and nostalgia - which basically means that there are things that make you nostalgic for old times back in the german democratic republic. yes, there are things that are still loved dearly and by which people are still extremely fascinated by. you can call it outdated or sticking permanently to the past, but it's actually quite nostalgic and quite a nice way to commemorate the old times. to forget the past, is also to kind of forget yourself. for me, everything vintage and historic is important, because that's where your roots are. oh man, did i start philosophizing again? ) laucha is really small, there are only about 500 people living in this tiny village. there is nothing much to see here, except that there still were a few surprises! an artist's house was sitting right next to the restaurant we were celebrating, full of wood figurines and statues and brightly painted doors! it was a sight to behold. in the back of the park there's also a little lake where we found little frogs, ducks, geese and a few idyllic places to photograph. even though it rained really heavy in late afternoon we managed to spend some time outside and just enjoying the quiet surroundings.

himmelblauer trabant - sky blue trabant. that's the stereotypical model, and also the model everyone wanted to have. there's a song by sonja schmidt as well, a very cheesy iconic folk song.

very sleek and easy design.

the artist who lives in the beautiful old house next to the restaurant is a creator of playground equipments. spielart seems to be a really great and one of a kind company, everything's made of natural materials and you can sense that a lot of love for details went into the creating process. they have a nice website ( even in english! ) where you can take a peek at their catalogues! i loved the whole house, you could find little figurines everywhere and in the drive you could also marvel at one of their playgrounds.

this door was my personal highlight! who couldn't resist a wooden cat door?

tiny idyllic ponds in the park.

and a bigger lake. lots of angler people surrounded it.

beautiful ducks. these are not typical ducks that you can find naturally in the area, some of them were indian runner ducks ( the ones with the long neck ) and some other ones, that i couldn't identify. ( the ones with the light brown neck and speckled coat ).

tiny frog! my 7 year old cousin found it hopping happily through the grass.

view onto the inselsberg - fourth highest mountain of the thuringian forest.

more runner ducks and geese!

the beautiful barn house where the owners of spielart live.

meet some playground toys! i loved this spider.

and a troll making faces!

may '20: seeking modernism.

super pink rhododendron buds emerging! i start off this post with some flower images to appreciate and praise the time of spring, especially the month of may, which is the most abundant spring month to me personally. all the blossoms, all the fresh greens amass during may, and my heart and mind are hardly ever able to not frolick & gush about it all! for this post i am returning to one walk i did with the sole purpose to find a special mid-century villa in königstein ( which would ultimately prove to be a failure - i did find it, but i couldn't approach it properly to have a good look at it and only ever saw a tiny bit of the garden/forest side ). the whole walk was not a letdown, though, as i did find some other mid-century & brutalism gems and thoroughly enjoyed walking through the old spa town in the taunus mountains. rhododendron shrubs yield all kinds of different blossoms in myriad colours, they are easy to breed, therefore a wide variety can be found all over the wor...

autumn impressions.

a selected assortment of autumn related things. ( or things that don't fit into a 'bigger picture' ) i will get around to posting my autumn vacation photos as well. my parents and me visited france a second time and i think it was almost as wonderful as the first time. but i'll get to that soon. moth in front of a vinyl shop window. i bet you know who's smile it is that strikes at you from the record. elvis! i went mushroom hunting again, this time with jasmin, the best mushroom finder i have :) but we didn't have a lot of time together this past autumn, i am very sad to admit this. she's one of our apprentices in the serving area in our market, but recently she's on exchange in a different outlet until january. but soon we'll have her back and our sporadic meetings will stop being sporadic. i think times like these make me realize that there's something worth living for. mostly my life is very grey and i'm so thankful to s...

of dragons & critters and yin & yang kittens.

my cat shadow is a very prolific cat and gives birth to baby sweethearts annually. we always let them grow up until they're old enough to be given away. growing up in a huge garden where they can roam around freely - isn't that the best way to grow up? it's always a joy to visit my parents and my cat in that time of the year. i have also included some pictures of a little rhine trip i made in the middle of may. and the occasional random ones that didn't fit somewhere.  rhine wood dragon. sitting on the rhine beach enjoying the beautiful day. my stone collection of the day. ( i seriously have a lot of stones in my home. i love to collect them! ) the river rhine near eltville. random skull assortment ( shot this at the naxoshalle in frankfurt - i was there for a japanese movie festival ) rosey roses. they also smelled heavenly. raindrops on my window. chameleon tail. i adore spirals. baby kittens drinking momma m...
