a walk in the butterfly meadows.

time to post something again, isn't it? speaking of time - it flies by so quickly these days. 2 weeks ago i was on vacation by the baltic sea, and it still feels like it was just yesterday. working seems to flow as well, even though we are not very well staffed at the moment. i feel that i brought back some kind of 'i don't care' attitude from the baltic sea, and i really should hold on to that. a lot of things happened since the last time i posted, and i will try my very best to finally close up onto my present life. these photos are still from april. we wandered around near an abbey on a hiking trail that was marked with butterfly signs. we have seen one or two, but the trail itself was equally as beautiful.

before we drove to that abbey we visited a little castle.

a single picture of the rhine.

the abbey of marienthal is situated in the taunus mountains near geisenheim. it's a well known place of pilgrimage, as you can see by the sight of the benches. when we visited, close to no people were around, though, i guess the pilgrims come here preferably in summer times.

the abbey's park. there were stations of jesus' life everywhere so you could kneel down and pray. we didn't do that, though, as we're not religious at all, just interested in quiet and peaceful places.

there were a few poems on some signs, that i really liked.

listen closely

to silence
and noise,
in the room
and outside,
to low tide and high tide,
in your own head.

to impulse
and vibrancy in the heart,
to quietness and reclusiveness,
to subtlety and reticence,
listen closely.

the most delightful things of the world
come to us if we only listen.

the woods were so green and lush, the heydays of spring.

young oak tree leaves.

the sign of the butterfly.

and soon after that i was lucky to find one!

in this meadow we laid down to rest a bit. it was so quiet, only birds were chirping and butterflies fluttered everywhere.

after some rest we wandered on - past hills of vine.

past former mills.

little creeks.

here we found another butterfly, but i didn't shoot a decent picture.

on this little bridge i sat down for a while - just staring into the little creek or into the woods. the light and the shadow play was so good on this day.

november: kickelhahn, himmelblau & weimar cemetery.

i had a week off in november and visited my parents ( as i often do on my vacations ). on a sunday morning we headed to the thuringian forest to climb onto the peak of the kickelhahn mountain. the kickelhahn mountain is the landmark mountain of the city of ilmenau . johann wolfgang von goethe , the famous writer & philosopher, often visited ilmenau and also climbed the kickelhahn. oftentimes he stopped at a little hut in the woods to relax for a while and on one of these stops he wrote one of his most known poems.  our little adventure didn't last the whole day, though, as we had a little date with the weimar cemetery to look after the grave of my grandparents and then to visit my cousin and his family. tiny peek onto the kickelhahn tower. thuringian woods - deep dark green. at the goethe hut. this plate shows the german version of the poem goethe wrote here. inside the hut. and here's the english translation. i love this poem so much, as ...

in the forests.

it's that time of the year again.

july '20: lake petersdorf discoveries and a plea against genocide.

the green wild meadows of malchow's sandfeld. in the west of malchow there is a big chunk of forest that spans towards plauer see, a widely 'uncultivated' area these days, but it hasn't always been this way. in my last post i mentioned the nazi munition factory that had been built in these woods, away from prying eyes of their enemies and where they also built an external subcamp for the concentration camp ravensbrück. exactly these woods we explored on a pretty sunny day, betraying the darkness that happened around these parts. isn't it weird that there are places in this world that were built or used by dark forces and horrible regimes and you vist them 80 years later and they are the most peaceful places you can imagine? sometimes my brain can't cope with the contrast of knowing what was in the past and what the present looks and feels like. it definitely leaves me with a strange impression often, kind of like a little sting in my heart and brain that is not ...
