opel zoo.

hello y'all, long time no see!

i'm always a bit lazy when it comes to uploading pictures, since it takes so long to edit them. additionally, my internet is not the fastest, that's another reason why i postpone my entries, haha.
but, anyway, here is what i was up to the last month.

my parents visited me a few weeks ago and we did all kind of stuff, even though the weather wasn't that nice. one thing that stays in my mind for the future was our visit to the opel zoo in kronberg/königstein. it's a wonderful animal park in the taunus mountains showing all kinds of animals like mooses, ice foxes, crocodiles, owls, elephants, meerkats and giraffes. i'd visit this park anytime again, it was so beautiful.

all these bright colours are gone now. the weather forecast predicted snow for the weekend.

let me introduce 'le dromedary'. side profile. he posed for me in the most delicate ways. what a beauty, isn't he?

laughing.

aristocratic.

curious.

and in full beauty! by the way, this is not the dromedary, i introduced you to. this one was called 'le hairy dromedary' by me.

these eyes belong to another dromedary!

a dromedary head on a fountain.

a freezing trumpeter hornbill. the trumpeter horn is really amazing. nature does fantastic stuff.

the founder georg von opel with an elephant.

more elephants, big and small. i loved the statues in the park!

and a real one. see how muddy it was! i'm glad they didn't slip. the zoo is working on reconstructing the elephant home, it's not in the best condition.

persian fallow deer. they were such beauties!

another introduction: 'la snowy owl'. side profile.

looking alarmed.

or dis-enchanted. did you know that the male owls are pure white? somehow i always thought that the women must be white, but apparently they're not.

the evil colour! i love such intense colours on a grey day.

my most favourite animals in the world ( besides the trillion other animals i love ) is the meerkat! because they're so cute when they relax in the sun, or are caring for each other. they're also such curious things! seriously, my love for them is so strong my parents already bought me a little meerkat figurine which has found the best place in my wall unit.

i could watch them for hours. my parents always need to drag me away from them.

lowland nyalas! they had such kind eyes and beautiful fur.

chinese muntjacs. more prettyness!

haha, one of them was continually eating a carrot. can you see it?

view onto kronberg and kronberg castle.

a little further away.

last introduction: 'les giraffes'. i've never seen so many giraffes living together before. they're so elegant and caring animals. true family guys! they caress each other with so much intimacy, it was a joy to watch. this guy above was the biggest one - and also the loveliest. he had a very close connection with the youngest child. i didn't know they could be so loving!

coming closer to one of the females.

i suppose she was the mother of the small giraffe. can you see the look in their eyes? it made me fall deeply in love with giraffes. i can't express my feelings when i saw these animals. it was just... pure bliss! pure wonderment about how sensitiv they were! they were the last animals we've seen, and we went home swearing we'd return soon.

next one: small visit at home + a few fasanerie pics.

november: kickelhahn, himmelblau & weimar cemetery.

i had a week off in november and visited my parents ( as i often do on my vacations ). on a sunday morning we headed to the thuringian forest to climb onto the peak of the kickelhahn mountain. the kickelhahn mountain is the landmark mountain of the city of ilmenau . johann wolfgang von goethe , the famous writer & philosopher, often visited ilmenau and also climbed the kickelhahn. oftentimes he stopped at a little hut in the woods to relax for a while and on one of these stops he wrote one of his most known poems.  our little adventure didn't last the whole day, though, as we had a little date with the weimar cemetery to look after the grave of my grandparents and then to visit my cousin and his family. tiny peek onto the kickelhahn tower. thuringian woods - deep dark green. at the goethe hut. this plate shows the german version of the poem goethe wrote here. inside the hut. and here's the english translation. i love this poem so much, as ...

it's that time of the year again.

july '20: lake petersdorf discoveries and a plea against genocide.

the green wild meadows of malchow's sandfeld. in the west of malchow there is a big chunk of forest that spans towards plauer see, a widely 'uncultivated' area these days, but it hasn't always been this way. in my last post i mentioned the nazi munition factory that had been built in these woods, away from prying eyes of their enemies and where they also built an external subcamp for the concentration camp ravensbrück. exactly these woods we explored on a pretty sunny day, betraying the darkness that happened around these parts. isn't it weird that there are places in this world that were built or used by dark forces and horrible regimes and you vist them 80 years later and they are the most peaceful places you can imagine? sometimes my brain can't cope with the contrast of knowing what was in the past and what the present looks and feels like. it definitely leaves me with a strange impression often, kind of like a little sting in my heart and brain that is not ...
