weekly glee # 19 2009.

1. desertions.

bright colours in the coldest season.

# thehoodwatch's 'rural decay' - suburban wonderfulness, with old cars, almost derelicted shacks and houses in a nice autumn atmosphere. thehoodwatch never fails to amaze me.
# raskalov_vit's 'small abandoned town' - i am beyond words for this fantastic place. it looks like the spirits of the previous owners still float around everywhere, and it's somehow sad and creepy to see an entire town all left behind.
# rusty tagliareni's 'the overbrook asylum' - this guy's pictures are my new favourites! it's great that he always researches informations about the places he explores, how they looked in former times, what happened there... and the videos he provides score with amazing music, which is a double plus. makes the places more creepy. check out his blog for more stunning places!

2. photogenius.

bubblegum beau / armoured ingeniousity

# 'ascension' by nick knight for dazed & confused october 2008 - this photoset is damn brilliant! i like the mirror effects a lot and that it looks straight out of the most horrifying and creepy movie ever invented. nick knight is surely one genius photographer and together with gareth pugh's strange clothings this can't turn out as some bad project. click here for more details on the shoot!
# emile hirsch by alexei hay for gq style italy fall/winter '09 - oh my, i think i still have a thing for longhaired men... this photoshoot brought up some memories... doesn't he look a little bit like ewan mcgregor? well. he's handsome nonetheless.

3. architecture & design.

vincent darré's home & shop on selby.com - let me introduce you to vincent darré, owner of maison darré ( a furniture shop ) in paris. todd selby photographed his home & shop and lead me to the most amazing desks and chairs ever:

aren't they absolutely fantastic? you will see this furniture on the selby site as well & more of mr. darré's pieces on his own website: maison darré - check out the other skeleton-inspired stuff!

another selby-shoot i liked was the 'back to nature' home of photographer dan martensen & model shannan click. trés naturel & beautiful!

4. diversity.

de-li-ci-ous! om-nom-nom-nom, like the cookie monster would say :D

since it's soon turkey day in america, luxirare's prepared the most delicious thanksgiving diner ever! oh my. this girl is too much for me. how can someone be so creative and overwhelmingly productive? i'm a teensy weensy bit jealous.

5. videotime.

the perfect diner leads me directly to the cookie monster of the sesame street. since 'sesame street' is getting 40 years old i'd wanted to show you the cookie monster instructing us how to eat a cookie the right way! happy birthday sesame street!

Charlotte Gainsbourg - Heaven Can Wait from Charlotte Gainsbourg on Vimeo.

and the video is just super lovely, especially the slowmotion sceneries. the faces of some of the people starring in there are priceless!

oh, and since christmas isn't too far away anymore, check out the crazy holiday party of bob dylan! i'm a bit distracted by his strange hair, but it's nonetheless a typical dylan-esque video and i'm really excited to give the album a listen soon! ( i bought it today, but sweared to myself not to listen to it before the 1st of december... well.. seems like i can't wait that long anymore... :P )

i wish y'all a nice time setting up the christmas lights and decorations. well, just don't get all crazy with it. and get your christmas presents early! think of the poor people who will work for you on christmas. ugh, yeah. sorry, just had to point this out, because i fear that my christmas will be stressful, apocalyptic and... not christmassy because of things like that, haha.

still, happy advent times to all of you!

may '20: seeking modernism.

super pink rhododendron buds emerging! i start off this post with some flower images to appreciate and praise the time of spring, especially the month of may, which is the most abundant spring month to me personally. all the blossoms, all the fresh greens amass during may, and my heart and mind are hardly ever able to not frolick & gush about it all! for this post i am returning to one walk i did with the sole purpose to find a special mid-century villa in königstein ( which would ultimately prove to be a failure - i did find it, but i couldn't approach it properly to have a good look at it and only ever saw a tiny bit of the garden/forest side ). the whole walk was not a letdown, though, as i did find some other mid-century & brutalism gems and thoroughly enjoyed walking through the old spa town in the taunus mountains. rhododendron shrubs yield all kinds of different blossoms in myriad colours, they are easy to breed, therefore a wide variety can be found all over the wor...

july '20: lake petersdorf discoveries and a plea against genocide.

the green wild meadows of malchow's sandfeld. in the west of malchow there is a big chunk of forest that spans towards plauer see, a widely 'uncultivated' area these days, but it hasn't always been this way. in my last post i mentioned the nazi munition factory that had been built in these woods, away from prying eyes of their enemies and where they also built an external subcamp for the concentration camp ravensbrück. exactly these woods we explored on a pretty sunny day, betraying the darkness that happened around these parts. isn't it weird that there are places in this world that were built or used by dark forces and horrible regimes and you vist them 80 years later and they are the most peaceful places you can imagine? sometimes my brain can't cope with the contrast of knowing what was in the past and what the present looks and feels like. it definitely leaves me with a strange impression often, kind of like a little sting in my heart and brain that is not ...

november: thuringian forest.

the day we visited the thuringian forest near luisenthal we would also receive the death notice of my cousin. while the day in luisenthal was pretty magic - i even found a goat skull to take home for my not so fast growing skull collection - the time we got home and received the phone call of my grandmother, everything went dull. we always had hoped for him to recover - over the course of his sickness there were multiple times we'd thought he was on his way up, but that also counted for the times it was clear that the cancer was severe and probably not defeatable. in the end he fought four years, but he couldn't conquer. his constant optimism & general good will wasn't enough as his body decided to give up on him. i'm still thinking a lot about him, he was such a good natured guy, always seeing the good in everything and everyone. it's so strange to know that he's never going to be on any future family party gathering again. we discussed so many things whe...
