december '16: no nights dark enough.

krämerbrücke in erfurt. it's a bridge covered with medieval houses, one of the very few still existing in europe. december is christmas light season. while i'm not really big on winter & the upcoming dim & dark days i have to admit that i really love christmas light decorations. illuminations & lighting in general are a few of my absolute favourite things. strolling on streets with beautiful light decorations or architecture that is highlighted in a special way makes my heart pound a little louder. this batch of pictures were shot on several christmas markets while i was on a home visit in early december. tiny mulled wine booth in front of the krämerbrücke . ( krämer is an old german word and means merchant - the bridge always was merchant's territory back in the old days and still remains so in modern times ). the river gera flows underneath the bridge. i'm still in awe of the bridge's construction and how it stems the weight of the...

november '16: out with a fire.

to transition into the upcoming december posts i have a little batch of photos left that i shot on a short visit at my childhood home. i went for a walk with my mom through our little village and rediscovered some of my favourite places growing up. it's strange how some things of the past often do not or undergo very little change. the church & its graveyard haven't changed much, it's only grown older and a little more dilapidated, but it's still the place i always loved to roam around, because of obvious reasons ( for me that would be that i was fascinated with death & peaceful places pretty much early on ;) ) the glasshouse above is actually not on fire, but the evening sun was just going down that moment and happened to throw the best optical illusion onto the reflecting windows. the structure is situated right next to the cemetery and is another place i always loved visiting, especially for flower/plant purchases. i am strangely attracted to greenho...

november '16: forests on the way there with the keys of death & hades.

when autumn rolls around my heart starts to beat in a different rhythm than usual. it prepares itself for cocooning and nostalgia and the dark season of winter. it's sick of the hot & humid days of summer and aches for the warm colours of autumnal transit. summer often makes me want to stay at home, because i can't stand the high temperatures. so when autumn finally makes its introduction it's time for me to explore again, roam through the woods and cities of my region and simply enjoy the outside world before retreating back to my little flat for winter season ( another time i rarely like to leave my four walls, because it's too cold & dire :P ) my heart just cries out for this particular season, my brain sucks in the colour explosions of dying nature, not wanting it all to end. if i could choose my very own year cycle it would consist of only spring & autumn. yes, i know summer & winter are important aspects of the cycle and necessary for my favou...
