saying good-bye to the baltic sea - but not for too long.

these are the last few pictures of my summer vacation trip to the baltic sea. i write this in anticipation of my next trip there, as i'm having another vacation next week. i've never been at the baltic sea in autumn, so i'm definitely stoked. let's hope it's going to be as beautiful and comforting as it was in the summer. i didn't make a lot of photos anymore because my camera gave up on me constantly. i was a bit sad about this, but alas, i had the chance to take it all in with my two eyes, anyway. we visited travemünde again and got a chance to look at old sailing vessels. a little harbour overview. shortly before my camera said good-bye forever. this is the tea house in timmendorfer strand. and not far away from it there is this japanese style inspired garden & house. it's an art trade company for asian art & objects . a few meters onward there is another asian-styled house which is also part of the company. there you...

windy beach days.

some people recommended pelzerhaken & rettin to us, so we decided to head there. as far as we could make out they weren't highly interesting villages, but walking near the beach is always a good alternative. no matter on which beach you are, every single one is special. a landmark of pelzerhaken is its former telecommunication tower of the marine. there is a beach promenade right next to it with activity devices ( that we used for fun, haha ) and there was also a small rock exhibit. sometimes we walked through dune openings to see what was going on on the beach - and we marvelled at the kite surfers that made a lot of daring feats such as jumping high and making saltos in the air. that beach promenade also leads to rettin, another district of neustadt in holstein. we made our way there and stayed for a while as there was a little village fair going on. on another evening we decided to visit timmendorfer strand again. it was a particularly stormy evening, the waves were p...

the village haffkrug and its surroundings.

haffkrug is a small village which is part of the municipality of scharbeutz . it is the place we are always staying in for several reasons: it's remote, it's quiet, it's not overpopulated and as i lovingly tell people: it's a retirement place. scharbeutz, the main town of the municipality is much more of a vacation destination: beach parties, sport activities, and socializing mainly take place in that location. don't get me wrong on that, i love haffkrug for exactly that doziness, because as you all know, i'm someone who needs secluded regions to relax and calm down. andshould there be a need of wanting to go out and putting yourself into a populated area you can easily do so, as scharbeutz and timmendorfer strand are not far away and can be reached per pedes and bike. the beautiful sea in the evening. in the back you can see the coastline of timmendorfer strand. i love walking on the beach in the evening, because isn't the light situation the...

the cliff lines of brodten.

i really wanted to walk near a cliff line in my vacations so we decided to have a walk at the brodtener ufer . it's a cliff line between niendorf & lübeck-travemünde . i know that next time i'm going to visit a cliff line i'll be walking right under it, not high above it, because it seems so secluded from the rest of the world. it's great to look out to the sea with an abyss down your feet, though.  it was a rather cloudy day, but the sun peeked through a few times so the sea looked kind of turquoise/green. the baltic sea isn't that dirty like everybody tells you, the reason for the sometimes dingy appearance is just that there are a lot of plants and algae on the bottom of the sea which get ripped out every once in a while because of sea turbulencies. that view was just amazing. i could stand there for hours and not even get remotely bored. a few people enjoying the seclusion. trees and soil sliding into the sea. the thing abo...
