may '18: lazy zoo life.

fluttering hyena .  the zoo in erfurt is on my itinerary at least once a year, and everytime i go there some new changes have been done, the compounds got bigger and the surroundings more natural. i like seeing old narrow compounds replaced with more open and less confining ones. even though, of course the living conditions are not ideal ( the animals should actually be comfortable in their respective countries, without having to fear extinction and living their natural life cycles as nature intented ), but seeing that they don't have to live in antiquated compounds anymore, that leave no space to roam, i feel a lot better visiting a zoo. i'm all for the informational & educational aspect of zoos, but i'm kind of torn about them as well. because if we took better care of all life on this earth, we wouldn't have to create these two-sworded 'sanctuaries'. it's a difficult topic, i know, and there are pros and cons on every side that are valid, b...

may '18: outdoor museum hohenfelden.

seeterrassen restaurant at the hohenfelden reservoir lake - a GDR building from 1971. for most of my vacances i decide to spend my time with my parents, either they visit me or i visit them, which is what i did in early may. my dad had to actually work during the time i was there, but i spent some time with my mom and we made a little trip to hohenfelden and its reservoir lake. we initially just wanted to have a nice long walk around the lake, but then ended up visiting the outdoor museum in the village of hohenfelden! it's a museum that showcases medieval & historic houses and it has various exhibitions about topics such as historic school systems, sheep shearing or blacksmithing. it was really a lot you could see & discover and as a lover of medieval houses i was basically in visual heaven. hohenfelden is not very far away from thuringia's capital erfurt, a stone's throw away to be exact. it's a rather small village, with only a few hundred inhabi...
