christmas trip: querfurt castle.

christmas was rather quiet and contemplative this year ( it was all that i needed ) and on the last day off we made our way up north into the neighbor state of saxony-anhalt to visit querfurt castle . it was a very dreary and foggy day and everything in this little town and on this castle seemed so very haunted and ghostly. the castle is one of the biggest castles in middle germany and the cities foundations date back to the 8th century. so the whole town ( which is really tiny actually ) is really old. we made a quick side trip to the graveyard and let's just say that it had so many old grave stones where you couldn't even make out the writings anymore. it was a spooky little cemetery, really. this day was kind of magic, i can't put my finger on why it exactly make me feel this way though. i guess it was the combination of the dark, foggy daylight with the ancient architecture. a beautiful starry portal with lion head above. the cemetery building. entranc...

christmas markets & candyfloss skies.

throughout december i've been visiting several christmas markets, starting with the one in aachen and followed by the ones in rüdesheim, erfurt & weimar. even though it was too warm last december the feeling of christmas never fails. walking through the streets of erfurt. the huge christmas pyramid of the erfurt christmas market . erfurt cathedral & church st. severus . one of the most beautiful houses in erfurt: zum breiten herd. the christmas pyramid of weimar christmas market . and the lilies of the twinkling star market in wiesbaden . trees made of blue and golden stars. ferris wheel reflection. these fluffy rabbits could be admired on the rüdesheim christmas market . their little pompom tails are the best on the way back to our car the sky turned candy cotton colours. it was one of the best sun sets i've ever seen. the whole mood of the sceneries, beyond magnificient. the three of us in front of...

visiting friends.

in early december i surprisingly got a week off and thus decided to visit some old friends that i haven't seen for approximately a year, up in the north, in the eifel region of north rhine-westphalia to be exact. the rursee, where i stayed, is actually a reservoir with accompanying dams. it was built back in the 1930ies and seems quite natural by now. the surrounding area is definitely worth a visit, beautiful nature and landscapes, historic sites, everything that my heart desires. if you yearn for the city, aachen is not too far away and if you want to visit another country, belgium is right around the corner! the time with my friends was truly appreciated, we did dog walks ( they have a giant poodle ), visited the christmas market in aachen and lounged around a lot, watching ' the walking dead '. wiesbaden main station. my car was in the garage this time, because some unripe assholes kicked off my side mirrors just one day before i wanted to visit my friends. th...
